Katelynn O'Brien
I am an artist and also work professionally as a software engineer at Boston Children's Hospital. I have a degree in Graphic Design and have spent my career happily working on web applications while also pursuing a life long passion for art and creativity in all its various forms. I think of myself as a multidisciplinary artist because my subject matter and materials vary.
I enjoy the control and rich colors offered by soft pastels and often paint realistic subjects with hints of impressionism. I love painting animals and setting up still lifes. But I also enjoy working in a more experimental way with mixed media and tend to be more playful, incorporating whimsical or abstract elements. I've recently been working with natural materials like beeswax, and repurposing materials that have been discarded or are difficult to recycle. For example, the birds in my gallery below are collaged onto software CDs using beeswax.
