Diane O'Brien
As a child, Diane knew that art would always play an important role in her life. With a degree in Advertising Art and Design, color and design were her constant companions. She began painting in 1980, and recognized that it provided her with an emotional connection to the world around her. Like many artists, she is particularly drawn to the light and the drama it casts on the landscape, the figure, and still life.
"The wonderful thing about painting, for me, is that it heightens my senses to the world around me. It causes one to stop and take a closer look at what could otherwise be passed by. I hope my paintings will invite the viewer in, so that they, too, feel their own connection."
Throughout her art career, Diane has studied with many fine master artists, such as Robert Carsten, Don Stone, Margaret Dyer, and Aline Ordman. She is both an oil and pastel painter, equally experienced in plein air and open studio settings. Her work has been exhibited in various juried shows, including the "Annual Juried Exhibition", at Zullo Gallery, Medfield, MA, "Monadnock Art Auctions" in Jaffrey, NH, and most recently, “Small Stones Festival of the Arts”, Grafton, MA.
She has traveled to Italy to paint the Tuscan countryside, Ireland, and most recently to Provence, in the south of France. While traveling, she has discovered a love for "Plein air" painting, and continues to paint on location whenever possible. Diane is a member of the Norwood Art Association, Foxboro Art Association, North River Arts Society, and a juried member of the Cape Cod Art Association.
